Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition

After taking a cab back home to deposit the wedding items, we soon made our way back to Marina Bay Sands to proceed with our original plans. We made our maiden trip to Bayfront station and also took our maiden walk to the Art Science Museum. Upon reaching the ticketing booth, we were a bit stunned to be informed that we had to wait an hour before we can enter the exhibition. But on hindsight, this was a good publicity move by the museum as it gave a realistic expectation to the visitors. Also, my dear commented that the crowd control was way much better than how it was at the Science Centre, even though the entrance fees was not that much higher.

The exhibition was quite good, having a lot of artifacts on display, each tagged with their corresponding information and linked to the various passengers. I quite like the way that we were given a boarding pass with a passenger name, one who really boarded the Titanic then, and we were then asked to check if our passenger survived the disaster at the end of the exhibits. For many passengers, they did not intend to board the Titanic but by a twist of fate, they did. Guess life is unpredictable and we need to treasure everyone by our side.

While in the museum, we had a small treat to a choir performance, which I think my dear liked a lot. After buying a souvenir, we went to watch the laser show display of MBS. Guess one of the things that could have been better was that we packed dinner for the outing beforehand as by the time the show ended, there was no eateries left open and we had to cook instant noodles at home. Luckily we had a milk tea drink before the exhibition, otherwise we would be too hungry for anything.

Collection of Wedding Invites and Photo Album

The decision to make the collection can be said to be made at the last minute for the original plan was to just visit the Titanic exhibition at the Art Science Museum. One of the reasons was because the studio only managed to call me the day before. Another reason was because it made time sense since the collection points were in the vicinity of our rendezvous location.

The collection of the wedding invites was simple and the goods were not bulky. The staff instructed us to check the quantity of the cards, information leaflets and the envelopes for any errors within three days. The collection of the photo album was not as so, as there were two albums in total and I totally forgot to consider the big photo frame. At the same time, the staff also forgot to print out the thank-you cards for us, which was quite a disappointment for us as we need to make another trip down. But anyway, we also need to go down to try the suit for our dads, so it was not too much of an inconvenience. We also managed to choose our hand flowers and decor for the car.

One of the last few trips to the bridal studio and counting down to the big day =)

The Vow

This movie was one of the more highly anticipated movies by my dear as I guess it was very much related to the upcoming events in our lives.

The movie started blissfully with the male and female lead knowing each other from mere strangers, to falling in love and getting married. However, as with all movie plots, the twist came when a car accident happened and the female lead lost her memory of the male lead.

At the beginning, the male lead tried all ways to restore their blissful lives together, but to no avail. What made things worse was that the girl's parents sort of disapproved of their relationship and wanted the girl to go back and live with them. As such, the guy had no choice but to sign the divorce papers as he only wanted the girl to be happy.

It was only later that the girl realised that her family members had concealed the truth from her and she previously left home because her dad had an affair with her best friend. The girl thus went back to find the guy. At the same time, the guy also realised that there was no point in trying to revive the old memories when it was more important to create new memories. The show ended with both of them happily ever after, the girl with her previously lost memories never recovered and a glimpse of the actual couple from which the movie was based on.

I quite enjoyed the show and the thought about whether to restore previous memories or to create new memories intrigued me. I guess seeing that the reviews was quite bad also helped me like it better as it wasn't as bad as expected. Also, I wondered if I am able to stay as strong as the guy if my dear forgot about me. Hmm...

Shopping for Kitchen Stuffs

Ever since our first visit to this place, we were highly anticipating our next visit to it as we thought it was our one-stop shop for our kitchen needs. However, as do with most first impressions, reality kicked in and busted the rosy picture. Actually we were mainly frustrated with the lack of proper price tags and the disorderly arrangement of their items. We felt paiseh as we need to go back to the counter and ask the staff for the price of every fork and spoon as all of them cost different, despite their similarity in looks.

Nevertheless, we still got quite a number of stuffs from there like our knives and eating utensils. Guess we still need to scout for more stuffs at other places.

Hunger Games

I first heard of this movie through the mouths of my colleagues as it totally caught my attention when they mentioned that movie audience actually stood up at the end of the movie to applaud the show. Soon after, I was hearing about its awesomeness through my students. Even the movie critics had high ratings for it. As such, I was very tempted to immerse myself in this awesomeness for myself.  Also, there was no other shows that was available on that day which my dear like, thus we decided to watch it.

We were slightly late and thus we missed a bit of the start, but after looking at the synopsis of the show, I guess we did not miss much. It started (from the time we got seated) with the sector holding a selection process to select a male and a female warrior to participate in the yearly Hunger Games, where the warriors had to kill off one another until there was only one survivor. The Hunger Games started as a bid to serve as a painful reminder of the rebellion in the past and to prevent rebellions by the various sectors. As such, nobody wished to be selected for this honour.

The female protagonist's younger sister was unluckily chosen and thus to save her, the protagonist volunteered to take her place. She, with her male counterpart, was then transported to the city central, where weird-looking people were cheering for their arrivals. Apparently their weird outfits seemed to mirror their twisted minds for liking the Hunger Games. Well, before the actual battle for survival, they had this talk show and a chance for them to display their talents so as to obtain "sponsorship" during the battle. Also, there was this betting system where odds were placed to indicate who had a better chance of survival.

Anyway, the battle soon started and somehow most people died in that first few minutes. It was amazing that the game master can conjure animals or even change the environment so as to manipulate the Games. In the middle, they even changed the rules to enable two survivors but they must be from the same sector. Eventually, only the female protagonist and her counterpart survived as they threatened to kill themselves together when the game master tried to restore the rules to only one survivor.

Well, I thought that it was so much like Battle Royale, though it was less bloody. There was some emotional aspect but I guess that was less emphasized. Maybe the book was written better and two hours was too short to illustrate everything. Nevertheless, it was enjoyable though I thought it wasn't as great as I expected.

The Lock Story Part 3

Almost forgot this until I reread some of the older posts.

The last part was with regards to the lock of the letterbox. The changing of the lock was simple, but I did not do it correctly the first time round. The lock was installed wrongly such that the key cannot be taken out when the letterbox was locked. Thus, the letterbox was left unlocked for quite a number of days. Luckily for us, the door held on quite firmly even when it was unlocked.

The problem was rectified during the second time after some logical thinking. However, I have to get used to the fact that locking means turning away from the edge, while unlocking is the other way round, which was not inherently intuitive, which also explains why the lock was installed wrongly the first time.

Anyway, with the fixing of the letterbox lock, all our locks are finally done! =)

Furniture Shopping Spree 9

After the arrival of our furnitures, we quickly proceeded to Giant Tampines and Ikea Tampines for some purchases which we could not have done previously.

At the first location, we bought two metal shelves (which was previously on sale and out of stock), one curtain set, one thermal flask, one induction cooker, one floor mat, one feather duster and one hand towel. All these were to be sent by delivery. Thank goodness for that.

At the second location, we bought two shelf racks and one table top. This time, we did not opt for the delivery and decided to go for the taxi ride. This decision later turned out to be quite a disaster.

Mistake one: We were waiting at the London cab queue.
What should had been done: We should queue up at the normal queue and wait for bigger cabs, while allowing those behind us to take the smaller cabs.

Mistake two: I queried about the private transport (due to us being visible targets at the London cab queue).
What should had been done: I should have ignore the person altogether as he was giving my dear the creeps.

Mistake three: We waited too long before walking off (as the creepy person was like waiting for us) and I was trying in vain to get a bigger cab.
What should have been done: We should have walked off earlier so that we can still grab a bus or cab somewhere else.

Eventually after 1+ hour of waiting, we walked off carrying the three bulky and heavy items. We walked for a 4 bus stops, resting for a while at each bus stop. Though it was quite comical and very tiring, I felt guilty mistreating my dear like that. And I decided that I should try once more to call for a cab as I cannot bear seeing my dear suffering like that. Luckily, our lucky stars still shone for us as we did get a cab in the end. I cannot imagine how it would be like if we could not get a cab. It could be rather dangerous as well.

One more event for my dear to nag at me, but I guess I am happy to know that my dear is willing to stick through thick and thin with me. Need to really make it up to her.

Arrival of Our Furnitures

Prior to this day, I was still comtemplating whether it is a wise choice choice getting all (well, almost all) the furniture to reach our place on the same day. This thought was further strengthened when the various companies called me on the previous day to confirm that their timings will be from 2 to 4 pm. But after seeing the end result, I guess the choice made was indeed wonderful though it was really by a stroke of luck, rather many strokes of luck, that they do not come all at the same time as they need the space and time to install the furnitures.

The tv console came first at 10+ am, and this was followed by Ikea at 11+ am. We quickly took a lunch break and repaired the lock of our letterbox as it previously could not lock properly. While waiting for the other furniture to come, we started with the assembly of the chairs. I took the more complex portion of chairs, which I took quite a while to understand and orchestrated. My dear assembled the simpler but higher quantity portion of chairs. The coffee table came at 3 pm, and the dining table came in a short while after. This was to be followed closely by the sofa, the wardrobe and finally the bed frame with its side table. Though a better flow would be the bedroom items followed by the living room items, we really could not ask for more. It was smooth enough for us.

After one day of hard work (by the workers and us) and bigger openings of our pockets, let's savour the view of our new house.

Updates on Renovation 15

Finally, I can declared that this shall be the last (or one of the last) update on our renovation for it can be said to be finally done.

During the first visit, the carpentry workers completed the lamination of the extra worktop. They could have finished the installation but they realised the support for the worktop was insufficient, thus they came back on another day. Anyway, they had to replace one of the cabinet doors for the lamination was budging for that door. I was rather unsatisfied with one portion of the worktop but I guess I eventually gave in for any delays in the completion was tiring for us.

During the second visit, the extra worktop was installed and the legendary backsplash was up as well. It turned out to be very nice as I was not expecting it to be one piece. Some how in my mind, I was thinking that it will be 3 pieces combined together.

However, the funny thing was that our contractor did not pursue us for the final payment when all these while, she kept messaging me to remind me about my payment. I guess I will contact her to wrap the entire renovation.
