Our Wedding Photo Shoot

I guess most of those who had went through this process would agree that the wedding photo shoot is tiring. In fact, tiring is an severe understatement. If there were a 26-letter word in the dictionary (by using all available letters) to describe extreme fatigue and exhaustion, I would use that. Then again, I would rather do this than face a disruptive class. That is sure mental exertion and slow painful torture for a longer period. At least this was enjoyable.

We woke up quite early in the morning at 6+ am, even though our alarm was at 645 am and our appointment was only at 930 am. I guess both of us were extremely excited about this event. We were informed to take a heavy meal before going to the photo studio, and as such we decided to go to MacDonald's to enjoy the weekday breakfast promotion for the very first time. We also brought some museli bars for breaks in between. It was lucky that we catered for enough buffer time as we were a bit delayed in setting off due to the scramble for use of the sole toilet (at the moment) and we also sort of got a bit lost finding MacDonald's at Tanjong Pagar due to yours truly remembering the wrong location.

Upon reaching the photo studio with our luggage (yes, we packed all the stuffs that we need in a luggage, namely 4 pairs of shoes and all the props we need for the shoot which came up to quite a lot), my dear was ushered to do her hair and makeup. I was just sitting down waiting for my turn, while at the same time, feeling weird at the awkward silence with another groom also waiting there. Eventually, we talked. For one sentence. Before we were asked to go change and do our hair and makeup. Talk about poor timing. Guess we were not fated to chat.

After which, it was just listening to the photographer, Charlie and following his instructions for the various poses for our five changes of clothes. He is quite a nice person to be with. Hope that the shots will be nice (after all the photoshopping, lol). Below are some shots taken by ourselves:

After the indoor shots, it started to rain very heavily and we were given two options:
1) to proceed and risk getting no outdoor shots due to the weather and therefore needing to come back for another shoot which costs $300; or
2) to postpone the shoot at a cost of $100.

Frankly speaking, I was rather pissed at this information because the bridal studio did not covey the cost to us beforehand even though they mentioned that they will make up the shoot if the weather is bad. I guess it is normal to expect that there will not be any additional cost incurred, right? In addition, the cost of the fake eyelashes and ampur were like ripoffs as well. I guess we were lucky that we decided to proceed with the shot as the weather improved once we reached NIE (actually we were sort of forced to proceed as we were not free after December). The rain also stopped when we came back to MBS area to take the night shots.

The entire event only ended at 9+ pm, when we finally returned to the studio to return the outdoor clothes. Indeed, it was tiring and we were famished as we did not have time to even eat our museli bars, but I guess it will be worth it (it better be) when we go and select the photos in January.

Collection of Keys

This shall the first post in which its time is before the actual event. Just happened to be using the computer before going for the second appointment. Probably the last unless time permits.

The second appointment was conducted by another officer as the officer in charge of our case told us beforehand that she will be on leave. But I guess the process was quite smooth and quickly done. A few signatures here and there and voila, we had our flat. Basically, everything was over before we had time to digest and realise what was going on. Of course, the passing of the keys was the most symbolic event of this appointment.

The keys to our new home =)

After transferring of the SP services, we proceeded to the CityGas Gallery to view the gas water heaters after my dear realised that the gallery was actually located at HDB Hub. We met an eloquent salesman there, who did not seem to see the need to breathe while explaining the heaters and I really like his subtle way of promoting the modulated products, though his explanations can be a bit overwhelming.

Anyway, we proceeded to our new place, armed with our keys and some fruits. We did the opening door procedure as indicated on the internet.

Later on, my dear informed me that she felt uncomfortable about going through this process as it felt creepy like a ritual. I guess I have to give her lots of hugs to compensate for her emotional "trauma". Hope everything turns out well when we go back on Friday to clear things up.

Gown Fitting and Trial Makeup

We were back to the studio once more for her gown fitting and trial makeup. My dear was very excited over this and could not sleep well the night before. We went for lunch at Maxwell Food Centre and I made the wrong decision to queue up for the stall that had the longest queue for the queue had me waiting for 45 mins. Luckily we had buffer time for the unexpected long lunch hour. And to think that after me, there are still so many people queueing. I wonder how they got the time, since most of them are working in the vicinity. I also discovered that there is a Lao Ban Dou Hua there also. And true to what I heard, people queueing there bought dou hua in double digit quantities.

At the bridal studio, the process was much simpler and shorter. We tried our outfits and only slight adjustments were required to be made to the gowns. We proceeded to the photo studio soon after for the trial makeup.

Beauty queen for the year

However, as there was no time for her to remove the makeup, she wore it to meet her secondary school friends. She also mentioned that it was weird to have such makeup in her casual outfit. I guess with or without makeup, she is always beautiful to me.

Underwater World and Sentosa

The date for this was changed several times due to unforeseen circumstances, but luckily it did not dampen the mood. We went out later than planned as I had to stay home to help supervise the construction workers, but in the end, it turned out that they did not come for that day. Thus, we quickly set off for our journey.

There were some disappointments at the start. We did not manage to eat the prata at the food centre opposite Vivocity, but the substitutes in the form of char siew and roast pork rice compensated for the prata's absence. We also saw some pretty decals in the catalogue but the shop did not have the stock. We then took the shuttle train into Sentosa, where we cluelessly searched for the shuttle bus to bring us to Underwater World (one of the many times that I am not 100% sure how to go but still act like I know how to go).

Of course, our search was not disappointing and nowadays the bus stops come with the bus information so it was quite hard to not know how to go. I would not say it is idiot-proof as for every idiot-proof stuff made, there will always be an idiot born. Anyway, we reached our destination rather quickly and after buying our discounted tickets, by courtesy of Passion card, we scrambled to the dolphin lagoon to catch its 4pm show. It was entertaining but very difficult to take photos as the sea lions and dolphins moved pretty fast. In fact too fast for the trusty old camera to take a clear image.

We then proceeded back to the aquarium and it is quite nostalgic to know that nothing much had changed since my last visit, probably at least 10 years back. I guess the only difference was the expansion at the ground level, which includes the dolphin lagoon. However, it was my dear's first visit and it was very fascinating to her (me as well) indeed, though she expected the place to be very much bigger, just like how I expected of Snow City. I think Underwater World beats Snow City hands down, in terms of its size and variation.

After our little tour around the aquarium, we walked along the beach and somehow saw my dear's students there. Coincidentally, I also saw my students some distance later. Guess Singapore is just too small. We also took a peek at the iFly attraction that opened recently. Warning: not suitable for the faint hearted and shallow pockets. I guess it was simply a rich man's game, though I do not mind trying it once for the experience.

Our walk soon saw us at Resort World and we discovered that there will be a Crane show at 9 pm. As a result, we backtracked to get ourselves dinner at the cheaper places like KFC and then, walking the same path for the third time, back to the seats. Sometimes, unplanned walks like this turned out to be quite fun and fulfilling, though some knowledge and planning would save us the triple walking.

Our day ended with a slow stroll out to Vivocity (plus several phototaking) and a comfortable bus ride home. I guess after a long day of activities, we were simply exhausted but happy. =)

Puss In Boots

I guess this movie tried to capitalise on the success of Shrek and as usual, there will be some twists to some of the usual fairy tale characters that we are so familiar with. However, there was entirely no hint of Puss being linked to Shrek.

The story starts with the protagonist relating his life story, starting with being raised in an orphanage and making good friends with Humpty Dumpty. Let's call him HD for short. Well, as youths trying to grow up, they both got into trouble here and there, mainly via theft. Puss then saved the mother of one of the important people and he was awarded the boots as a indication of bravery and honour. However, HD did not turn his leaf and he even set up Puss up after he lied that he needed Puss' help in transporting goods.

Since then, Puss had been living the life of an outlaw. Then one day, HD, together with Kitty Softpaws, came to find him to seek his help to seek the golden eggs of the goose, which was only located in the giant's castle, high up in the clouds. This castle was only accessible by the magic beans of Jack (remember Jack and the Beanstalk?). Somehow, the magic beans were in the possession of Jack and Jill, who turned out to be bad-tempered big-sized grown-ups and HD needed Puss' help. Puss only agreed for the sake of his foster mother and hometown.

And so the story unwrapped, with Puss flirting with Softpaws and them succeeding in getting the magic beans and the golden eggs, together with the baby goose that laid those eggs. However, it was soon discovered that HD wanted to destroy the hometown of Puss through the actions of the mother of the baby goose, when she tried to retrieve her lost child. But Puss appealed to HD's conscience and asked him to turn over a new leaf by saving the town. And he did, but sacrificed himself in the end, becoming a golden egg himself after falling to the ground. And so, Puss cleared his name and restored his honour.

I guess it was a simple and nice movie.

Snow City

We did not plan to go for this at the start, if not for the free tickets given by my mum. Might as well, otherwise the freebies will be wasted.

We followed the advice on the website on wearing long pants and socks, as well as bringing hats and gloves. But I guess we did not count on the temperatures to be so low. So into the centre we went and soon we were selecting our jackets and boots. After checking on our life-saving equipment, we ventured in the cold unknown, with high anticipation. Only to realise that it was such a small place. One could virtually walk the entire place in 5 minutes?

Well, its saving grace was its ski slope, which incidentally happened to be the only attraction there, unless you want to count in the small igloo miniature or the decors for photo-taking. It was fun sliding down the slope, though a wait in the freezing cold is a must (since all the people have to go to the sole attraction unless they do not want to do anything there, which means nobody). We tried once locking arms and another front-back (somehow that sentence sounds wrong) and we realised that we cannot handle another ride without going outside to defrost. Later on, we tried to build a snowman but we realised that the temperature was too low for the snow to melt and thus the shape cannot be formed. We had our last slide before my dear got a slight ache in her neck and we stopped to prevent any further aggravation.

Our pose with the lonesome polar bear...

Before entering the premises, I had the question of how the staff differentiate the customers paying for 1 hour and 2 hours. After experiencing the cold, I figured that nobody wants to stay inside for so long, thus the higher entrance fee was simply a rip off. Perhaps only kids will want to stay inside longer. Somehow they have this immunity to anything which we adults no longer have.

And to compensate with their low visit counts, they charged exorbitant prices for the photos that they took of us. Visitors like us will be compelled to buy them so as to retain a piece of memory of the place, just like how no one can resist the overly large watery eyes of Puss. As such, we were 1 picture richer and $20 poorer.

The $20 nice but expensive shot...

Nonetheless, it was a great experience. Guess the next time we will go there would probably be about 10 years from now when our kids are old enough to enjoy the fun there.

Well Deserved Date

I guess it had been a long while since our last date, especially since our schedules are heavily occupied with school stuffs, compounded with markings and extra lessons. I even had to accompany students overseas this time round. As such, my dear had been yearning and looking forward to this outing.

We started the day at Ang Mo Kio by buying contact lenses for moi and collecting stuffs for my dear, though our date only officially started with a lunch at Original Sin, located next to Holland Village MRT. I went there once for a wedding reception and found the food unique and scrumptious. Despite having a failed online booking transaction the day before, it did not dampen the mood and I found the old school method of using the phone much simpler and affirmative. The food items were on the pricey side, thus we opted for the set lunches (which were good enough for us), instead of their signature dishes.

Wrap with veggies (forgot its name also)

We later proceeded to explore Haw Par Villa for a short walk and immersing ourselves in the mythical realm of our Chinese heritage. There were the ten courts of hell, for which I found the English translation totally out of sync with the Mandarin explanation. Lost in translation I guess. Or maybe they used Google translate instead of an experienced translator. Or maybe they just did not bother. Anyway, we were nonetheless enlightened by the walking through the rites of passage. There were also statues and scenic depiction of other famous Chinese folklores, though we did not realise that the Statue of Liberty decided to jump ship and also want to become a Chinese folklore character. Nor did we expect the Sumo twins to be there as well. So much for cross cultural exchange. There were also memorials to honour the Haw Par brothers, as well as their parents and their early deceased son.

After which, we took a long bus ride to Jurong East, where we went back to our agenda of searching for furniture. We had ramen for dinner and very quickly we were on our way back home.

The non-spicy one...

Hope my dear had an enjoyable time.

Popular BookFest 2011

I guess this is one of must-visit places for our annual retreat, at least for the next few years. It seems like it is also a popular place for other fellow teachers, as indicated in their facebook statuses soon after.

This time, we had the honour of Ms Leow's company as she wanted to scout for her picture books heavy duty stapler and puncher (corrected by dear). We, on the other hand, were searching for mainly stationery, textbooks or assessment books. Unexpectedly, we also managed to find something for our bridal car decor. I mean, who on earth goes to a bookstore for soft toys, except probably for us? Lol.

Mr and Mrs Piggies

Cute right? Anyway, time flew like never before whenever we are having fun and we were soon five hours older with our purchases. It could have been shorter if not for a wrong price entry on one of the items. Though it was only $2.20, but I guess it was a matter of principle and I would not have bought it if not for the cheaper price. Incidentally, it was also one of the rare occasions that I spent more than my dear =)
