Our AD Videographer... Takashi Wai

Hmm, guess that's how I'm going to advertise my videographer for free, even though we had not had his services yet. Then again, I guess I did not do much advertising also.

Initially, as a measure to cut budget in view of the fact that inflation is constant and that our economical bids for a roof over our heads keep on getting rejected, we wanted to forgo videotaping our actual day. Somehow along the way, after considering that it is indeed once-in-a-lifetime affair (I figure I will not be alive if I thought of it otherwise), we then thought of buying a camcorder with our yearly handout from our all-encompassing employer in the form of LDS and asking one of our friends to tape the event. Somehow again along the way, we decided to browse a few websites belonging to a few videographers to take a look at their products. Well, no harm looking and ever since our episode with the bridal studio, we figured that doing some homework online will always land us in a better position to capitalise on the best deals. Also, I think this was also after we met up with one of the potential photographers last week and he recommended a particular videographer, Wai. And then, my dear fell in love with this videographer...'s work. And she has never looked back.

Well, as her significant other, I truly concur with her view (no, she definitely did not point a knife at me) and so we set up an appointment with Wai at Bedok's MacDonalds where we looked through his portfolio briefly on his laptop but with extremely low battery. Despite the shortcomings of his equipment (I was referring to his laptop, in case you are wondering), I personally find him sincere and a very nice person. I already had that feeling through his sms, prior to meeting up. As for my dear, she was convinced why Wai named himself that way after meeting him.

Anyway, since we were very convinced of the professionalism of his work, we did not really need to see much in the first place, thus we paid our deposit and we are one more step towards completion of the preparations for our big day.

I simply cannot wait for that day to come =)

A ride through history...

Just like many others, we decided to jump onto the bandwagon (pun intended) and board a train from Tanjong Pagar to Kluang after it was announced last month that the old train station at Tanjong Pagar will stop functioning from 1 July. For me and my dear, this is our first time and also our last time.

For a first-timer, buying train tickets actually takes much skill than expected. First, I had to sign up an account in order to access their system (that's the easy part). Next, I tried to book tickets for the next day, which the system forbade me from doing so. After refreshing the page with different browsers and killing several million brain cells, I figured that I had to book the tickets TWO days in advance, of which the info can only be known by having a PhD in detecting invisible words on a webpage. So much for being a Buddha-leg-hugger. But well, it was also my fault for being so last minute.

Anyway, I tried the next mode of purchase, which is through the phone. To my horror, all the numbers are Malaysian numbers. It must be quite expensive and troublesome to install a Singapore phone line at the Tanjong Pagar station as the land which it sat on belongs to Malaysia. Or maybe it is not in the staffs' job scope to answer call booking. In any case, I thought it was not sensible or logical to call KL for the tickets when I'm only going to Kluang (who knows how much phone bill I need to pay), so I physically went down to the station to buy the tickets. Luckily for me, it was quite hassle-free for me, unlike the other poor dude on the forum who had to go there five times. But unluckily for me, there were only First Class seats left, thus the budget had to increase.

The much sought after train tickets

We had to wake up quite early in the morning to reach the station at 7 am and have our breakfast there. We were advised to be there at 730 am for the 8 am train. The photos shall do further elaboration.

I still cannot believe that there is no phone inside...

Getting past the Malaysian customs is the interesting part which I found out from my tutee's mum and forum. This is probably the only time when they do not give a chop on your passport for entering Malaysian grounds. Too bad photos cannot be taken.

Along the way, we tried to identify the part of Singapore that we were passing by and when we passed by Bukit Timah, we saw many avid photographers taking photos at the abandoned station. Soon after we had to alight at Woodlands checkpoint for the scanning of the passport.

Phew... The Malaysian Customs did not
notice that I smuggled their trains...

We have arrived...

After some hours, we finally reached Kluang at 11am and bought the return train tickets. After which, it was lots of walking along the streets of Kluang, looking at the many duplications of convenience stores, shoe stores, spectacles stores and clothes stores. On the contrary, there was not many food stores there, probably due to the low population there eating out. As we were walking around, we had many light meals. Also, we managed to play Daytona at the arcade there, where I recapped how to play the beginner round and my dear struggled to not laugh and scream whenever she crashed the car.

Our second meal in Kluang... hungry...

Our third meal in Kluang... still hungry...
Our fourth meal in Kluang... for the piggies...

The calm before the crashes and screams... lol

The return trip, in contrast, was a disaster. First, the train lived up to its reputation of being late, as it came 1.5 hours after the scheduled time, though I believe that it was one of those few times that it was so late. Secondly, as a result of its tardiness, it had to wait at quite a number of places for the train in the other direction to pass as there was only one track. Thirdly, the train had to stop because one of the passengers dropped off earlier and there was some commotion as a result. Fourthly, the train was invested with cockroaches. Gross. Probably this is the last time I will be taking the train. I shall take coaches instead. Perhaps this is an indication that I should not visit Malaysia this year as I was stuck in delays for the two times that I came back from it.

Wo deng zhe ni hui lai, wo deng zhe ni hui lai...

Waiting for the late train...

Together waiting for the train...

Finally it came...

and there were more than one family...

Nevertheless, it was an interesting trip, though it could have been more enjoyable.

Pirates of the Carribean and Kungfu Panda

The first movie was seen on 20 May. And with courtesy of the Passion card, we got the tickets at $7 each with a free small popcorn.

Prior to the show, I had seen poor reviews about the show, but I thought the movie was quite alright. After all, it was a mythical show, anything can happen anyway. Though I've got a colleague who spared no efforts in advertising that it sucks. My dear had never seen the series before, so I guess she enjoyed the movie a lot.

It started off with the protagonist trying to save his First Mate from the gallows and then getting his way to finding the Fountain of Youth. In between, there were its classical sword fights and runs. It was quite funny to see Jack executing his escape route while trying to eat a dessert cake en route. He was then captured by a pirate and his daughter, as the old pirate wanted to extend his life by visiting the Fountain of Youth. They also capture a mermaid to bring to the Fountain of Youth in order to retrieve her tears. Then in the end, the pirate died after drinking from the wrong cup, a plot hatched by Jack, and his life was given to his daughter. After which, Jack dumped the daughter on a isolated island. As usual, since my memory is quite bad, it would be better to search for the movie plot if you want to know more details about it.

The second movie was seen the following week on 27 May and once again, the Passion card gave us similar benefits. I guess I can stop my subscription for SAFRA card already.

The movie started out with the extermination of the Pandas by a Peacock, Lord Shen, due to a prediction by a soothsayer. Lord Shen was exiled as a result and all was peaceful and quiet, until Lord Shen decided that peace and quiet was not the way of his world and he was ready with his cannon to rule over China. Po with his entourage were then tasked to stop Lord Shen. In between, Po also managed to find out his real parentage. However, ties forged cannot be easily broken and he remained gratified towards his foster dad. Well, Lord Shen was defeated in the end as he decided not to repent. There was a scene at the end of the credits, showing that his real dad was alive after all. Guess that sets the scene for the next episode.

The story was nicely craved and continued in the second episode and my dear felt that there were more feminine characteristics given to Tigress as well. In between there were many witty dialogues and funny scenes of Po doing things, uncharacteristically of a hero. In all, we enjoyed the movie very much.
