North South East West Vegetarian Cuisine

When I first heard of this name, I was thinking aloud, "Are you kidding me? What a kiddish name." But after reading the good reviews about this place, I figured that it was not a play-play kind of a place that I first thought it was.

We were there because our friends are vegetarians. We ordered mushroom soup, cheesy spaghetti, mushroom baked rice and maple syrup milk tea. The tea came first and just like what we expected, it was Koi in the hot version but minus the pearls. Nice nonetheless. The mains (I had the spaghetti and my dear had the baked rice) were excellent and richly delicious. The soup, however, was the only disappointment, being too watery and having a weird unexplained smell.

And it was not expensive, considering that it costed only $60+ for 7 people. It is also not difficult to reach as it is just directly opposite the side gate of TKGS. I guess I would go back to try the other items on its menu.

Furniture Shopping Spree 2

Another purchase adding on to the furniture collection of our new home. Actually, we like this set of shoe cabinet and bench when we first saw it at NEX. But we did not purchase it then because we were worried that the dimensions of the narrow entrance of thy house (also officially known as our balcony, though ironically it serves none of the purposes a balcony provides) cannot fit our lofty ideas.

But after taken some actual measurements, the items were deemed small enough for our "balcony". The purchase was made also to capitalise on the 5% discount which will expire after 4 November. I just hope that they do not come up with some other promotions which will give more discounts.

Anyway, the two items from V.hive Home Interiors:
The shoe cabinet
The bench
Hmm, I guess there are more to come.

In time...

Well, it was a movie which my dear wanted to watch and as usual, after she read about how the story went. Even so, I quite like the thought-provoking concepts lying implicitly within the scenes, though I would rate the movie higher if there were more development of the characters. Then again, budget constraints may have resulted in that.

Anyway, the show had this concept about time being an asset and that one has to work in order to earn time to live beyond 25 years old. In a way, it is sort of a replacement for cash in our world. It started with the male lead living happily (sort of?) with his mum. But the show proceeded, showing in bits and pieces how inflation reduces the value of work with the amount of time earned by each person becoming lesser and the payment for items becoming more expensive. This so-called inflation resulted in the death of his mum as the male lead is unable to pass some time back to his mum.

Then the male lead managed to rescue another man from another time zone (social class in our context) from being robbed of his time. However, with a strong intent to die after living so long, he transferred his time to the male lead and committed suicide. This enabled the male lead to cross time zones and wanting to experience life with that much of a time. This also triggered the search for him by the time-keepers (law enforcers in our context) as he was linked to the death of the 'rich' man.

Well, in the process, the male lead caught the eye of the female lead as she found him unique in her own time zone. And by stroke of luck (and also the hand of the director), the male lead got to know the female lead much better after gambling with her dad. But like in any movie, it cannot be all that rosy and smooth-sailing and thus came in the timekeepers to arrest the male lead for possessing too much time and in the process his excess time was confiscated. To escape, he kidnapped the female lead and it soon turned into a car getaway with them escaping successfully.

The male lead then showed the female lead more of his life and later on, the female lead was heartbroken because the dad did not want to sacrifice his time for the ransom to save her. In retaliation, the male and female lead decided to rob the dad's company and distribute the wealth to the people of the lower social class. Well, in the end, both male and female lead continued their 'crimes' by robbing other companies of their 'time'.

In the movie, it was mentioned that many people had to die, so that a few others can live forever. In a way, it was like a mockery of our world, where most people are poor so that a few others are rich and it was sad that in such a system with inflation, the poor gets poorer and the rich gets richer. Another concept that was brought out was that time is relative, if time was spent wisely and happily, one day will be enough; whereas if time was spent in other ways, no amount of time will be enough and one will never be happy.

Well, in all, it was a nice serious sci-fi movie which we both enjoyed.

The day of Mimosa...

The icon of my dear's favourite plant...

Mimosa is my dear's favourite plant, but it wasn't by design that we went by the path which enabled us to see a lot of Mimosa today. In fact, we saw a lot of them and their relatives as well. Well, it was only today that we learnt that they actually had relatives. After all, who knew that plants could have cross breeding as well. Guess we learn new things every day.

So let's present the protagonist:
The star of the day...

The relative (with rounder leaves):
The difference may not be that obvious,
but the leaves are really shorter and rounder

Another relative (who reacts slower to touch, very much slower):
Notice the white parts near the stem,
and the colour of the leaves is darker as well...

Yet another relative (one who grew to become a tree - another new thing which we learnt today):
This was actually from a branch on a tree
and the tree was was taller than me...

The gone relative:
Dried up but still equally captivating...

Blissful Marriage Seminar

It was quite ironic that we decided to go for this seminar, as the main bulk of it was on the purchase of a new home. Especially since we actually went there immediately after our 1st appointment. A bit too late hur. But in any case, we learnt a few bits of information here and there which we did not know about, though not really crucial and relevant to the purchase of our flat. And we both concur that the presenter could improve on their method of presentation and choice of examples for the presenter did a pretty good job of confusing the audience. At least me. Well, job hazard of being a teacher.

The middle portion centred on how to maintain the loving relationship between a couple by finding out the love language of the partner, which I guess was our main takeaway for the seminar (so that it was not a waste of our money). The male presenter was very humourous and unreserved in showing love for his wife and I really envy his candidness. We wanted to find him for our solemnisation but it was a pity that he could only do an English version. Well, guess our search continues.

Our 1st Appointment

I guess this event is one of the most awaited one for this year. My dear mentioned that it was akin to taking an exam, and that she was very nervous, as if she had butterflies in her stomach. Prior to this, she was actually very worried that something might go wrong with this event, such that we will not be able to get our flat. And like always, I assured her that everything will be alright.

The appointment was at 1030am but as anxious people like we are, just like our housing agent, we reached HDB hub early at 10am. And I guess time passed really fast for anxious people for the entire process only ended with the payment at 12pm. Frankly speaking, much of the time wasn't spent on waiting (atypical of government agencies), but rather in filling up and signing the numerous forms that were there (this however is very consistent with government agencies). There were two rounds of forms filling and signing and of course, there were waiting for the sellers to complete their forms but I guess the sellers waited a longer time for us.

While waiting outside the resale rooms
Guess which number is ours? Prizes to be given if correct.

Actually, none of the numbers was ours =P When our numbers (A7781, 266) was up, we were simply too excited to enter the room and thus not enough time was available to take a clear shot.

The officer in charge of our case was very patient in explaining the terms and conditions of the various forms as well as answering our numerous queries. After all, this is our first time and the stakes involved are very high. The officer was also very experienced, from the way she printed the countless documents while talking to us and waiting for us to sign the earlier documents. It does help that she, after all, is a female with strong multitasking capabilities. After more than half an hour in the room, we ended off the session by paying off all the necessary expenses.

Now we shall continue to wait for the 2nd appointment on the 13th December... with much anticipation =)

Change-Up

Another lighthearted movie in the span of two weeks, and I must admit that I was shocked when the first set of boobs came to view. The innocent me just did not realise that it was rated M18.

Anyway, the story was about two best friends, one single and one married, leading two different kinds of lives. One day or rather one night, both of them were like exclaiming how nice it would be to live the other guy's life. And since both of them said that when peeing into a fountain, with a female statue staring at them doing their business, one could easily guess what happened next. And indeed they were the other guy the next day.

So the movie continued with both guys trying to unwish their wishes, only to realise to their horror that the fountain was relocated. Desperate situations called for desperate measures and so they tried to help each other lead their original lives, giving the other specific instructions, since they could no longer do that. And being misfits in the other guy's life, it was quite funny seeing them blaming the other for not following the instructions. Guy A wanted Guy B to not do anything funny, so that he can become a partner of the law film. Guy B wanted Guy A to do his best as porn star, while also having sex with a pregnant lady. Both guys also got to know how others actually thought of them. Guy A found out that the wife was actually very upset with him as he did not spend enough time with her. Guy B found out he was deemed as a failure, a person who always gives up. As such, they tried to rectify that.

Well, though at one point in time the movie showed them enjoying the other guy's life, through all these tribulations, they both soon realised that their original lives were still best suited for them. And with strong convictions and knowledge of the location of the mysterious wishing fountatin, they wished that they had their lives back. And well, happy story with a happy ending, though I was still shocked that boobs were shown four times by three female actors in the movie.

Though it was enjoyable, but I guess this movie doesn't really leave much of an impression and would be easily forgotten with the passing of time.

Friends with Benefits

In case you are wondering about the numerous posts at one go, I guess it's time we discovered that we ought to be responsible enough to clear our backlog.

Anyway, this funny and lighthearted movie was seen some time back with great enjoyment. It started off with the female lead, as a headhunter for a design company, recruiting the male lead. In an attempt to convince the guy to accept the job, she brought him around New York to, in her very own words, "sell" New York's way of life to him. Of course, the guy accepted it (otherwise it will be very difficult for the show to carry on), gaining not only the job, and also the friendship of this girl, giving credit to the title of the movie.

So what benefits will that be? Since sex sells, naturally that would be it. So the guy became closer friends with the girl and one day, out of sheer boredom and after some admiration of the girl's bottom, he suggested having sex with her but with no emotions attached, to which she agreed. Thereafter, the floodgates opened with numerous scenes of lovemaking, without being lewd.

Meanwhile, the girl got to date another guy, as a rise to the challenge posed by the male lead to flaunt their charms to attract the opposite sex, much to the male lead's jealousy. However, that relationship soon failed and the girl was soon nursing her wounded heart at the guy's hometown. Then, the girl got angry with the guy, after overhearing a comment by the guy, indicating that she was very screwed up. That followed by some cold war and hate towards each other.

The final segment showed the father of guy reminiscing his past and talking about not regretting and giving up one's love. This spurned the guy to win the girl's heart back and he did so by doing a flash mob scene, which is distinctively similar to how the girl attempted to entice the guy to accept the job.

My dear and I both enjoyed ourselves, loving the film's simplicity and its witty dialogue. I guess we were just suckers for romantic comedies.

In the midst of waiting...

I guess the euphoria of finally getting our home is still very intense in our hearts... though we still need to see the actual layout and the colour combination of the interior, it's never too late to gather ideas for it right? thus, we went to ikea to gather some ideas for our home... and i guess reaching there at 5+pm is still too late as we did not manage to see the stuffs for the bedroom when we left at 10+pm... our time were mainly consumed by the ideas generated for the stuffs normally in the living room and the study room... time flies when you are having fun and it was so nice to be doing it with my dear...

later on, we even walked to our future flat from tampines interchange... 18 mins at a superb leisurely and comfortable manner... of course, comfortable means without heavy loads of marking as commented by dear... well, we even walked around the nearby shops and we were pleasantly surprised to see a 24hr ntuc and prata shop opened for us... there were a variety of shops and we were contented with that... but my dear did mentioned that she will miss her home... well, we can go back often to compensate for that? =)

I do not mind fast forwarding to the day that we get our keys =)... but for now, it is a patient wait and hope that nothing will go wrong before that...

Lalalalalala... lalalalala...

We went to watch this blue film right after our teachers' day event... and perhaps this is the only blue film (that i know of and not that i know many) which kids can watch despite their young age... because it's called the smurfs =)

probably the youths today cannot really identify with this, but this movie was like part of our childhood, growing together with us... but anyway, this movie centred its plot on one character called clumsy, who was prophesied by papa smurf to cause the capture of the smurfs through his "talent" or rather "non-talent" of clumsiness... and indeed this seemed to be true as he accidentally led the evil magician, gargamel to his hideout which immediately caused a massive destruction of the mushroom houses... incidentally, a vortex leading to the human world was opened and in the midst of escaping from gargamel, they (papa, clumsy, smurfette, brainy, grouchy and gutsy) reached the modern world, with gargamel chasing close after them... thus the adventure continued with the smurfs trying to find the way back home, making friends with one couple and clumsy, defying all expectations, eventually saving the day...

as usual, if you want a more detailed synopsis of the movie, please refer to official sites... but this movie is recommended for its simplicity and humour at many instances, for example like how everyone despaired (with their priceless resigned expressions) at the prospect of clumsy saving the day and like how the smurfs nonchalantly and innocently changed from singing to humming their classic song when the guy expressed his irritation of their song... and it is indeed a happy film, because it will make one happy...

happy... shalalala... it's so nice to be happy... shalalala... *transits to* lalalalalala... sing a happy song...
